A spokesperson for the New South Wales courts told Reuters that Alexander Csergo will appear in Parramatta district court on Saturday on charges of reckless foreign interference. The court list shows that this is a criminal case. ## Alexander Csergo Age

Alexander Csergo is 55 years old.

## Arrested

Police said the arrest was part of a joint investigation with intelligence services and the crime was related to Australian defense and national security information. The man, not named in the police statement, runs an overseas business and had recently returned to Australia. Csergo was arrested at a residential address in the Sydney beachside suburb of Bondi, a woman living at the same address told Reuters.

A neighbor, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a long-time Shanghai resident named Alex had recently returned and stayed at the address, and was arrested on Friday. Another said police had visited the address for the second time in recent weeks. The LinkedIn profile of Shanghai-based Alexander Csergo shows he is a data and digital marketing consultant with experience in the advertising industry in China, Singapore, and Australia. Working in China since 2011, he showed himself.

In the statement, police claimed that the arrested person was contacted while he was abroad by a person who claimed to be from a group of experts. He said he later met two people he knew “Ken” and “Evelyn”, who offered him money to learn about Australia’s defense, national security and economic regulations, and other countries’ matters.

The police allege that he prepared a series of reports for the public and was paid for these reports.

The Australian Federal Police will claim that “Ken” and “Evelyn” are working for a foreign intelligence service and are conducting intelligence-gathering activities.

Csergo is the second person charged with a crime since Australia introduced foreign intervention laws in 2018.
