Alexander Wright A homeless man arrested eight times last year for assault and setting fire has been charged with striking an Asian woman in the face while walking down a Manhattan street.
Alexander was arrested shortly after the unprovoked attack, which took place in broad daylight on Monday afternoon.

Passerby Jin Zhen posted on Instagram, saying that he ran to a nearby police compound to alert officers who were able to track Wright several blocks away.
In a separate attack, surveillance footage captured a man beating an elderly Asian woman last Wednesday.
The New York Police Department reported that it was working to identify the man who struck Wing Wa Chin, 75, near 57th Avenue and 97th Place in Queens.
The cruel and unprovoked attack left the old woman with a broken nose, a fractured eye socket, and two black eyes.
“ She had just returned from the supermarket and had her shopping cart, ” the victim’s son, who asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation, told CBS2.

The victim, who was rushed to hospital for treatment, has not been publicly named. She is said to be stable.
NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea told CBS New York: ‘He lives in a shelter, arrested eight times in the last year, assaulting people at random, setting fires. The guy who was arrested Friday setting fires. What are we doing in society? Are we releasing these people back to the streets? ‘
Wright’s arrest comes amid escalating crime in New York and criticism of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s bail reforms that have returned suspects arrested for violent crimes to the streets of the city.
