Ann Collins is the daughter of Michael Collins, an American astronaut who flew the Apollo 11 Columbia command module around the Moon in 1969 while his fellow crew members, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, made the first manned surface landing. He was also a test pilot and a major general in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. His father, Collins, died of cancer in hospice care in Naples, Florida, on April 28, 2021, at age 90, while that her mother, Patricia, died in 2014 after suffering a stroke.
Ann Collins is a physician whose interests range from adolescent health, office surgical procedures, diet and exercise counseling, stress management, and practice-based learning and improvement.

Ann Collins’s mother, Patricia, was no stranger to facing responsibility with inner strength. She was the eldest of nine children born in Dorchester to a politically accomplished family.
Her mother, Julia Kendrigan, was the daughter of Irish immigrants. Her father, Joseph Finnegan, was the youngest of 10 born in County Mayo, Ireland, on a 10-acre plot where potatoes were the dominant crop. He immigrated to Massachusetts and went from hauling buckets of coal to serving in the state Senate.
Three of Patricia’s younger siblings followed their father into government: John Finnegan became a state representative and state auditor, David Finnegan was chairman of the School Committee and a two-time mayoral candidate, and Joe Finnegan was a deputy commissioner in the Department of Health. State Mental and Vice-Chancellor of the Board of Regents of the State Department of Education.
As a de facto extra mother growing up, and later as a family genealogist, Patricia “held the family together as the older sister, and in later years was the glue, the matriarch of her Irish family,” said her other daughter, Ann Starr of Belmont.
He has two brothers, a sister Kate Collins and a brother Michael Collins. His sister Kate Collins is an American actress. She is best known for playing the character of Natalie Marlowe on the ABC soap opera All My Children, a role that she originated in 1985.

An eloquent writer who eloquently captured the behind-the-scenes concerns and challenges that astronaut wives faced during the Gemini and Apollo missions, Ms. Collins died on April 19, 2014, at the Marina Bay Skilled Nursing Facility in Quincy of complications from a stroke she suffered in September 2013. She was 83 years old and split her time between Quincy and Marco Island, Florida.
In 1969, before her husband left on the first lunar landing mission when he piloted the Apollo 11 command module orbiting above while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the surface of the moon below, Mrs. Collins wrote him a poem. which included the verse:
Take my silence, even if it is intentional;
Fill it with the joy you feel.
Take my courage, now pretend –
You, my love, will make it come true.
