The victim was discovered unconscious and unresponsive in a hotel room by police from the Metropolitan Police Department, who were called in to investigate the “problem” at the hotel on New York Avenue. By the time the DC Fire and Emergency Services got there, the victim was already dead.

## Cause of Death

He was a shining light in all of our lives and brought happiness to everyone he knew. Please understand our need for privacy at this time as we mourn his passing. The broadcaster said Sydnor, a homeless person, had no connection with Bautista. According to court records, Bautista arrived at the hotel around 6:00 p.m. Sydnor got on his bike and appeared to be listening to Bautista’s bedroom door.

“Sydnor does not appear to have knocked on the door or reported his presence to the deceased,” the investigators said in the court minutes. A 911 caller nearby allegedly heard a woman being pushed into the room shouting for help as Sydnor walked in.

According to the police station, CCTV footage from court records shows the victim saying, “Help! Help!” and recording the sound of the door slamming. One of the injuries allegedly punctured his spine, possibly resulting in paralysis. A kitchen knife was found at the scene and Sydnor was found with blood and cuts on his hand.

Sydnor had two unpaid warrants for his arrest at the time of the incident. One of the arrest warrants was linked to an incident in southeast Washington DC in October 2022, where a woman said she took Sydnor’s cell phone and car keys at gunpoint. The second arrest warrant was related to a Maryland theft case.

Sydnor’s legal representative pleaded not guilty at the court hearing. Sydnor is taken into custody without bail. The attack left him with “30 sharp force injuries,” according to the victim’s autopsy report. Saddened by Christy Bautista’s death, police and the victim’s family have requested privacy.
