The [Las Vegas Review-Journal](https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/sex-crimes/police-say-uber-driver-interrupted-ride-to-rape-sleeping-passenger-2501305/) identified Mekonene as an Uber driver and said the company provided police with Mekonene’s driving records, which show the trip began in the Las Vegas Strip area and ended at an apartment complex at about six miles away. But Uber’s records show that Mekonene allegedly finished the trip in half, but restarted it after 22 minutes, at which point he dropped the victim off at the originally requested stop, the report says. The woman reportedly came from another state. Arrest records obtained by the news site describe the terrifying series of events, detailing how the woman fell asleep about five minutes after the trip began and woke up during the backseat assault. Apparently, she then strangled the woman until she was knocked unconscious. When they reached the woman’s stop, he “pulled her out of the car and threw her clothes and other belongings at her,” the report says, noting that her delivery events were captured on [surveillance footage](https://wikibioin.com/). Mekonene was still in jail on Sunday morning. The local district attorney’s office eventually dropped the kidnapping charge against him, but without the other three charges. Records show he was held on Thursday on a $ 200,000 cash bond. He is due to return to court on December 30. Las Vegas Justice Court records did not identify an attorney for Mekonene but indicated that he was being represented by a public defender. Mekonene’s public defender could not be reached for comment Sunday using a phone number provided in court records. An Uber spokesperson did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on Sunday but told the Review-Journal that he was assisting law enforcement in their investigation. “The details described by the passenger are horrible and we immediately deactivated the driver,” the Uber spokesman told the news site. Police are asking anyone who has information about Mekonene or believes he was his victim to call 702-828-3421. > ##### Read Also: [Who is Erika Wulff Jones?
