## Ex-Husband Allegedly Confessed to killing his ex-wife & Charged

On Thursday, detectives served a search warrant at the home of Rojas’s ex-husband, Josefino Cayetano Maldonado, in Salinas.

Maldonado was interviewed by detectives and allegedly confessed to killing his ex-wife in Ventura County and dumping her body in Santa Barbara County, police say in the statement.

On Friday, according to information from Maldonado, detectives located Rojas’s body on an embankment on the side of the U.S. Highway. Route 101, north of the Gaviota Tunnel in Santa Barbara County.

Rojas’s body was well hidden on the embankment, which would have made it difficult to detect him, Sgt. Edgar Fernández, from the department’s felony unit, told the [VC Star](https://www.vcstar.com/story/news/local/communities/oxnard/2021/07/20/ex-husband-charged-murder-oxnard-woman-reported-missing/8035047002/).

Maldonado was arrested Friday and booked into the Ventura County Pretrial Detention Center.

He is charged with murder and is being held without bail while waiting for his next court date on August 10, KION reports.

He has not yet pleaded guilty. His public defender did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Police have not said how Rojas died and are still investigating why.

Investigators said Maldonado allegedly killed Rojas on Saturday, hours after she was seen getting into a vehicle, prosecutors said, VC Star reports.

The former couple had three children together, including two adult children.

They were in regular contact about their children, Fernandez told the VC Star.
