Grace Smith Wiki – Grace Smith Biography
Grace Smith, Laramie High School in Wyoming was closed for about 90 minutes on Thursday morning, October 7, for a strange reason. It ended when a 16-year-old was arrested and taken out of school in handcuffs.
According to a notice from Albany County School District No. 1 on Sept. 9, the Board of Trustees voted to approve a revised Covid-19 Mitigation Plan, which included universal masking at K-12 facilities, through Sept. 15. October. “The purpose of the mask requirement is to help ensure that students remain in school,” the update said. “The District may provide masks to students if they forget one or if they get dirty during the day.”
Grace Smith was Arrested for refusing to wear the mask
Grace Smith, the aforementioned young woman, reportedly returned to Laramie High School on Thursday morning after serving two consecutive two-day suspensions for failing to fulfill said mask mandate. According to Smith, her mandate violated her constitutional rights. She said that she will not wear a mask. She was reportedly warned by the school administration and faced two days of disciplinary suspension and a misdemeanor citation for every time she was in the building and refused to mask herself.
She said that the first time she was suspended, “I just left. Then after talking to our attorney, we decided to put pressure on him, so on Tuesday I didn’t (I left) and I took the fine for $ 500 and then I left. “After serving a two-day suspension, she came back on Thursday and was fined again. For trespassing. When she refused to leave the school, saying she had the right to be there, she was arrested. And the school was blocked.
In a brief statement, the school district said the “brief closure” was in response to a “student disciplinary disturbance” at the school’s main office. Sean O’Sullivan, a spokesman for the school district, said principals from across the district were in place for a weekly meeting at the time and no one was injured. “Everyone is safe,” he said. “That is the big key right now.” The statement added: “The lockdown was issued to prevent further disruptions to academic learning.”
A pair of Laramie police officers reportedly made Smith put her hands in front of her, handcuffed her and transported her to the police station in downtown Laramie, where Smith was released. The episode was captured on video by Smith on her phone. Smith said she was surprised that the incident evolved to include a school-wide shutdown and her arrest.
“They told me they were going to do that,” she said. “I was surprised that they did. They approached me probably 20 minutes before they arrested me and they told me that if he continues without leaving, we will arrest him ”.
Andy Smith, her father, said: “They told us how this would play out before it happened. They all said they were not going to arrest the children. But she was detained, handcuffed and taken to the detention center. ”
Grace Smith said after the incident that she is concerned that other students and teachers may retaliate. But she added that she was prepared for that. “It is very likely that some also hold (the lockdown) against me, but I would never try to hurt anyone on purpose,” she said.
On why she chose to take this position, Ella Smith said: “It is because I am growing up in a country where I am supposed to have the rights that God gave me to protect, and they are taking them away from me. Everyone has the freedom to wear a mask if they wish, but I think everyone also has the right not to wear a mask if they wish … It was my choice. I started rejecting the masks and I told them about it. ”
Andy Smith said they have hired an attorney to fight the subpoenas and, if necessary, the school district’s mandate.
