Gregory Sierra was an American actor known for his roles as Detective Sergeant Chano Amenguale on Barney Miller and as Julio Fuentes, Fred G. Sanford’s Puerto Rican neighbor on Sanford and Son. Cause of Death
Sierra died Jan. 4 of cancer, his widow Helene Tabor confirmed to CNN on Friday. He was 83 years old. “It was wonderful and my heart is broken into 400 million pieces,” Tabor said. Cancer persisted “for quite a long time and he was doing the best he could and he couldn’t do it anymore,” she said.
Tabor called Sierra “a brilliant actor” and said that she was still receiving fan mail in the days after his death. His last role as a credited actor was in 2018. Tabor said he decided to retire because, although he still loved acting, she had a hard time remembering his lines.
