ITV news anchor **Nicola Heywood-Thomas** died just two months after her last broadcast. The 67-year-old actor had health problems in the past months but continued his broadcasting life in February.

He leaves behind his three children, Tom, Becca, and Alys. His former colleague from [ITV](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/itv) Wales at Six Jonathan Hill announced his death on the show yesterday. “I’m afraid we have some very sad news to share with you,” he said. Our friend and colleague, former HTV host Nicola Heywood-Thomas, sadly passed away today.

In a career spanning over three decades, Nicola has been a familiar face to Welsh audiences, presenting news, current affairs, and arts programs. Of course, we have hosted many versions of this show together and we will all miss him very much here at ITV Cymru Wales. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.”

Based in Cardiff, Mrs. Heywood-Thomas has just graduated from university and started out as a news reporter for BBC Wales. He then went on to work as an assistant editor, reporter, and presenter on the flagship program Wales Today. For 18 years, as the main news reporter, he presented special news and current affairs programming for HTV, which became ITV Wales.

While on the station, he won a Bafta Cymru Award for Best Music Program for his show Not A Bad Voice about Welsh bass-baritone Geraint Evans. In a statement, they said that ITV Cymru is “one of the most iconic faces” in Wales.

He has also appeared on BBC Radio 4 and Radio 3, which broadcast live concerts. The host starred in a cameo in the cult classic Human Traffics, starring Danny Dyer, John Simm, and Andrew Lincoln. He appeared as a news reporter interviewing young people about British club culture and drug use.

BBC Radio Wales editor Carolyn Hitt explained that the channel had undergone “very grueling chemotherapy”. He said his colleague was the voice of art news in Wales and advocated for the country’s culture. He wrote on Twitter: “A great loss for Welsh broadcasting.

“All of us at BBC Radio Wales is deeply saddened by the death of our wonderful colleague and friend, Nicola Heywood Thomas. ‘An iconic journalist and champion of Welsh art. My condolences to Nicola’s family, especially her and their children Tom, Beca, and Alys.

Opera writer Hugh Canning paid tribute to his “old friend”, whom he called “an outstanding publisher”. “Disappointing news: My oldest friend, the outstanding publisher Nicola Heywood-Thomas, passed away today.” “We met in my first year at Oxford in 1972, when he was 16 and I was 18, and we’ve been friends ever since. I owe you a lot, RIP Nicholas.

ITV Cymru Wales said in a statement, “The ITV Cymru Wales family is deeply saddened by the passing of broadcaster Nicola Heywood-Thomas. “ITV Cymru has presented Wales in Six for over 15 years as one of Wales’ most iconic faces. “Thoughts are with all his friends and colleagues tonight.”
