Officers first found a glass pipe in Brake’s pocket that tested positive for methamphetamine before searching the motorhome and discovering two glasses cases. Three clear plastic bags inside the boxes contained substances that later tested positive for methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl, authorities said.
Brake allegedly had 1.8 grams of methamphetamine, along with 2.3 grams of heroin and 4.1 grams of fentanyl hidden in the cases.
“Detectives also located a credit card issued to Brake next to a digital scale inside the motorhome,” sheriff’s deputies said. “There were also a variety of firearms, prescription pill bottles prescribed to Brake and a variety of drug paraphernalia present.”
Brake, who remained incarcerated Wednesday on a $ 41,000 bond, has worked for the Citrus County district since 2001, district officials said in a statement to The Post.
“All employees go through a Level 2 FBI background check,” said Superintendent Sam Himmel. “We will do our best to work with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office as this investigation continues.”
Brake faces charges of trafficking in fentanyl, having a residence for the trafficking of a controlled substance, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine and heroin with the intent to distribute.
A district spokeswoman said Brake was still employed as of Wednesday.
“We have not been able to contact him because he is still in jail,” spokeswoman Lindsay Blair told The Post. “We have to give him due process. We are conducting our own investigation and once that investigation is completed, that will determine whether or not he is fired. ”
Blair said Brake taught math at Citrus Middle School. His name was not listed in a personnel directory until Wednesday. One woman on Facebook said that Brake was his former math teacher in eighth grade, while another said that he had previously coached his soccer team and was “skittish” and hyperactive at times.
“I always knew there was someone with him,” wrote the Florida woman.
