According to Monroe County State’s Attorney Dennis Ward, “(Hughes) stumbles and (Brewer) pulls up his shirt, pulls out a gun and shoots him in the stomach.” During his own 911 call, Brewer stated that the shooting was done in self-defense. The defendant can be heard saying, “Yes, hello, I just shot someone,” in the recordings. The sender then interrogates the shooter.
