The 20-year-old was found shot to death Saturday night in Hopewell Township, according to the Mercer County prosecutor’s office. Officers arrived at the Hopewell Valley Nature Preserve around 7 p.m. Saturday and found a Mercedes C300 on a trail, Mercer County Attorney Angelo Onofri and Hopewell Police Chief James Rosso said in a press release. Urban, who is from Manalapan, New Jersey, was found slumped in the driver’s seat, they said. ## Phil Urban Age Phil Urban turned 59 years old. ## Phil Urban cause of death UrbanUrban was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead of a gunshot wound a short time later, authorities said. A preliminary investigation found that “Urban arranged a rendezvous with an acquaintance on the reservation and was shot sometime during the meeting,” Onofri and Rosso said. Post University President and CEO John L. Hopkins said the Waterbury university community mourned Urban’s death. Urban was a freshman business student. “Philip modeled the hallmarks of leadership, dedication and hard work on the field and in the classroom,” Hopkins said in a statement. “We hope that his family, his friends and those affected by his passing find strength during this extremely difficult time. “Post offers advice to his school community,” said Joan Huwiler, a spokeswoman for the university. Phil loved the game of basketball,” Marc Kuntz, the head coach of Post men’s basketball, said in a phone interview Monday. “He spent a lot of time in the gym. He loved our show, he loved the boys. He loved interacting with them.” And while Urban was quiet, he was known for his sense of humor in the locker room, Kuntz said. “Phil was loved by everyone in the Post community,” the coach said in a statement on the school’s athletics page. “His easygoing sense of humor was contagious and he was a valuable part of our basketball program.” Kuntz said he has no idea why anyone would want to hurt him. “He was a good kid,” said the coach. “He had no problems at the Post. I can’t talk about the situation except to say it’s tragic.” He leaves behind a younger sister, Kuntz said. Urban averaged 2.5 points in four games this season for the Division II Post, who was in Florida for two games this weekend. Urban didn’t have much time to play his freshman year, Kuntz said, and the school limited his travel list, so he was asked to stay home and start vacation early. Post defeated 16th-ranked Florida Southern College, 87-83, on Saturday in Lakeland, Florida. Kuntz called the win “a great win” in a tweet later Saturday night. The team was scheduled to play Sunday against Barry University in Lakeland, but that game was canceled. The next post is scheduled to play at home against the University of Asunción on December 29. Urban, a six-foot-tall attacker, graduated from Pennington School, just a few miles from where he was found dead, outside of Trenton, New Jersey. In a statement, Lori Lipsky, Pennington’s director of communications and marketing, said the school community was “shocked” to learn of Urban’s death. “Philip spent his middle and high school years at Pennington and was a valued member of the school community,” Lipsky said. Lipsky declined to comment further on Urban’s death but said guidance would be available to students this week, despite Pennington School being closed for winter break. In high school, Urban also played for the club’s basketball team, the New Jersey Panthers. In a statement, the Panthers called Urban “sweet, respectful, and loyal.” “As the Panther family is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own, we must recognize how much happiness Phil has brought to this organization and the people around it,” the Panthers said in a statement. ” He had a great sense of humor and he was one of the most loved student-athletes in our organization, both by players and staff.” The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Hopewell Township Police Department jointly investigate the shooting. **Read also: Who is Thomas Petrou?
