The Florida Highway Patrol said officers responded Saturday morning to an alert from the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office that said officers were pursuing a stolen vehicle heading south on Interstate 75 in the Sumter County.
A police officer observed the car in question, a 2009 Cadillac sedan, traveling on Interstate 75 in Hernando County. When they tried to stop the car, the driver fled and began driving the vehicle at 110 mph, the Highway Patrol said. Agents chased the driver along Interstate 75 and eventually onto a state highway before stopping the car with a PIT maneuver and the woman was taken into custody.
“Rachael Lynn Stefancich, 24, of Plant City, almost naked, was immediately taken into custody and arrested for car theft, reckless driving, hit and run, possession of methamphetamine and driving with a suspended license,” said the Highway Patrol. . “Stefancich was later turned over to the Hernando County Jail.”
Online jail records show that Stefancich has had previous arrests for theft and drug possession, among other charges. Authorities said a barely clothed Florida woman was arrested Saturday after soldiers carried out a high-speed chase across multiple counties in a stolen car. The stolen car was located on the interstate in Hernando County, where soldiers were trying to stop traffic.
However, the vehicle instead pulled away, reaching speeds of 110 mph as it changed lanes and used the shoulder of the road to pass other cars. According to the arrest report, police withdrew from the vehicle to persuade the driver to pull off the interstate.
Eventually, the driver got onto State Highway 52 in Pasco County, where soldiers used a PIT maneuver to disable the vehicle.
