A GoFundMe page to help Yarl and his family has raised over $250,000 as of April 16, 2023. Page, Yarl’s teacher, and friends describe him as “kind-spirited”, “harmonious”, “friendly”, “well-educated”, “always willing to help”, “super smart” and “musical genius”. From GoFundMe. He added that he has recovered from his wounds, but has a long way to go for his recovery. Ralph Yarl is 16 years old. “Ralph deserves to have the future he dreams of. He deserves to be the light that shows the world that LOVE wins and humanity continues to be Good,” he writes on the page. According to the Kansas City police chief, speaking at a press conference, protests broke out outside the owner’s home as he was released from custody pending further investigation. Authorities did not disclose the name of the owner. Yarl’s name was revealed by his aunt. Actress Halle Berry was among those tweeting about Yarl. “His name is #RalphYarl and I’m sick and tired of this feeling… This gorgeous 16-year-old boy who accidentally knocked on the door while trying to pick up his siblings was shot in the head by a man who didn’t want him on his property,” Berry said, urging people to contact the prosecutor. Yarl’s aunt wrote on her GoFundMe page that the teenager was shot in the head when she accidentally went to the wrong house. Yarl’s aunt, Dr. Faith Spoonmore wrote on Thursday, April 13, 2023, that Yarl “went to pick up her younger twins from a friend’s house a few blocks from her home.” “There was no phone number. He accidentally went to the wrong house a block from the house where his brothers were located. He stopped in the driveway and rang the doorbell,” he wrote. “The man of the house opened the door, looked my niece in the eye, and shot him in the head. Ralph then got up and ran to the neighbor’s house for help, seeking help, according to Spoonmore’s post on his GoFundMe page. “Unfortunately, after being told to lie down on the floor with his hands up, he had to run to 3 different houses until someone finally agreed to help him.” Kansas City Police did not identify the breed of the owner, according to Star. The Daily Beast reported that the owner was white and the Yarl was black. Spoonmore wrote on Facebook: “This man looked at him in the face and shot him. @fox4kc’s new report clearly showed that the glass door was replaced as if nothing had happened and the individual was free to go about his day as if he had accomplished a great job. Even though my nephew is a great kid, a smart kid, a black kid was left with too many broken pieces. If you want to know how you can help me or my family, please tag and share this story with as many people as you think can help it grow. That man should be in jail. Black children don’t have to die for us to say enough. Let America see that an attempt to kill a black child is an attempt to kill all black children.” In a video of the post**,** Spoonmore accused the landlord of telling Yarl, “Don’t come here again.” A Fox4 broadcast featured in the video shows a reporter approaching people at home. “I think he’ll have to talk to other officials,” a man in the house told a Fox 4 reporter. It was unclear whether he owned the house. “He’s my friend, my man, and I love him to death,” a man down the driveway told the reporter. “We’re all taking care of each other.” “There is no excuse for the release of this armed and dangerous suspect who admitted to shooting an unarmed, non-threatening, and defenseless youth who rang the doorbell!” Civil rights attorney Lee Merritt tweeted, adding that the family and prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump is continuing their services. Merritt wrote that Yarl was initially in critical condition but recovered. Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said at a press conference that the teenager was shot “by a property owner” in front of a residence. According to Graves, the owner of the house was detained and put on hold for 24 hours for the investigation. The crime scene was investigated and the police applied to the prosecutor’s office. Graves added that this is not unusual, noting that they released the owner as they needed to take official statements from the victim, examine forensic evidence, and gather additional information. He said the official statement would be made public as soon as Yarl’s injuries allowed, adding that Missouri law requires the owner to be charged or released after 24 hours. He said the police would complete the investigation and forward the case to county prosecutors. “We are aware of the frustration this may cause throughout the criminal justice process,” the chief said at a press conference on the delay, adding that the department is working “as quickly and fully as possible”. We are committed to justice in this case and in every situation.” According to KHSB, Yarl accidentally came to “1100 blocks of 115 Northeast Street instead of 1100 blocks of 115 Northeast Terrace.” According to his GoFundMe page, Yarl is “a great kid and I’m not just saying this because he’s my nephew. It really is.” The page continues as follows: “He is a member of the Technology Student Association at School and the Science Olympiad Team. Jazz band and competition. He is the section leader in the band; an academic and one of the best basic clarinetists in Missouri. “Recently won the Missouri All-State Band honorable mention. He plays multiple instruments in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra. He graduated from the 2022 Missouri Academic Academy. Ralph can often be found with a musical instrument. He loves you all.” According to his [GoFundMe page](https://www.gofundme.com/f/nf36y-cover-medical-expenses), Yarl has big dreams. “Last summer, Ralph attended Missouri Scholar’s Academy where he got a full experience of college life. “His goal is to specialize in chemical engineering at Texas A&M.” “When asked how he plans to get into this university, he said, ‘If there are scholarships in music or academia, I know I can get it,'” the page states. “Ralph was looking forward to graduating from high school and getting the chance to visit West Africa before finally starting college,” she says. According to his GoFundMe page, Yarl is physically recovering. “Life looks so different right now. “While he is physically well, he has a long way to go mentally and emotionally,” he said. “The trauma she had to endure and survive is unimaginable. He is our miracle. We have heard such stories many times, and unfortunately, most black children are not alive enough to have another chance.” “However, he will need a lot of help to get there. The funds in this account will be used for his medical bills and treatment. “Additional funds will be used for college expenses at Texas A&M, a trip to West Africa, and other expenses.” #### [Who is Edward Sonnenblick?
