Robert Ferraro, a Connecticut police officer was charged with killing a partner in a DUI accident in Las Vegas on Friday.

New Haven officer Robert Ferraro, 34, was speeding in a 2020 Rolls Royce with two fellow police officers on board when he allegedly lost control and crashed into a busy car parked in a private driveway, according to KVVU-TV.

Castellano was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital, where he died. The other two officers, John Truhart of New Haven and Matthew Borges of Bethel, suffered minor injuries, for which they were treated and released. Two Texas women, who were also passengers, were not seriously injured.

Evidence from the scene, witness statements, and video show the vehicle lost control and crashed into another vehicle that was in a private driveway waiting to enter the street near the West Spring Mountain intersection. Road and South Decatur Boulevard, according to a police report. In addition to the three officers, the wrecked car was carrying two Texas passengers.

“The Rolls-Royce went off the road on the right, colliding with [a] Ford Mustang,” the police report read. “The Rolls-Royce continued west… and collided with utility poles on the side of the road, gardens, and a fire hydrant. The Rolls-Royce flipped onto the roof, ejected the right front passenger from the vehicle, and righted itself before coming to a stop. ”

On Saturday, a shocking police department in New Haven faced the loss of a popular officer and the arrest of another member of the force. “We are very sorry to have found out about this yesterday,” Domínguez said during a morning press conference in front of police headquarters. “The pain and pain that the men and women of the police department are going through is that of [losing] a brother.”

Domínguez remembered Castellano, who was hired by the department in July 2014 and was a member of the department’s layoff task force, as a great worker who could connect with anyone in the force and in his area.
