Maine Superior Court Judge Thomas Warren had ordered Carey’s suspension, ruling that he had committed se**xual assault, manipulated a witness, and failed to comply with a previous provisional suspension order, among other violations.
Since Carey was admitted to the Maine Bar in 2006, his license to practice law in Maine has been suspended four times for violations of the ethical rules governing the conduct of attorneys.
After his arrest in March, Carey was eventually returned to Maine and released on bail.
In response to his arrest on the charges brought against him, Carey requested an order of protection against abuse against his accuser, saying that the woman “has abused me and destroyed my life” and qualifying the accusations against him as unfounded.
