Sulai Bukhari, a suspect has been charged with attempted murder for the brutal stabbing of a 61-year-old social worker in North London.

Sulai Bukhari was also charged with two counts of attempting to cause serious bodily harm on Sunday after the Haringey incident, in which two police officers were assaulted.

Police were called just before 8 p.m. to an address on Noel Park Road, Wood Green, to assist the social worker who had been denied entry by residents.

After forcing the door and entering a common area of ​​the building, an attacker approached the social worker, who is an employee of the Haringey City Council, and stabbed him several times.

The Met said Saturday that a 33-year-old man arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious bodily harm remained in custody. He was charged on Sunday.

The social worker was still in the hospital on Saturday, but his injuries were not life-threatening, while the two policemen were released early Saturday morning.

Chief Superintendent Treena Fleming, Haringey and Enfield Police Commander, said: ‘Social workers play a vital role in ensuring that vulnerable people in our community, including children, are safe and secure.

‘We have a very close working relationship with our partners in local authorities and their social service teams and I am appalled by this shocking attack.

“We will do everything possible to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice. Our thoughts here in the North Area are with the injured social worker and his family and we wish him a speedy recovery. ‘

She added: “I would also like to pay tribute to the two officers who came to the aid of the victim in this incident, sustaining stab wounds as they did so.”

Fleming added: “ This incident shows the threat that knives pose to everyone in Haringey and across London.

“Addressing violent crime is the Met’s number one priority and the events on Friday night only serve to strengthen our resolve as we continue to take guns off the streets and bring criminals to justice.”

The Met said steps have been taken to protect children who were the subject of the initial welfare visit.

Haringey Council Leader Councilor Peray Ahmet and Local Authority Executive Director Zina Etheridge described the attack as “a shocking incident”.

In a joint statement, they said: ‘Social workers do incredibly important work. Your safety is of the utmost importance to us.

“This type of incident, while rare, is an important reminder that front-line personnel throughout the public sector put themselves in jeopardy to do their jobs and we should all express our appreciation and support as they do so.

“We also want to express our admiration and respect for the two policemen, who we understand suffered their injuries while protecting the social worker.”

They said the Haringey City Council would “provide all necessary support” to assist the social worker while he recovers.
