A viral video shows police arresting a woman at a Texas bank after she refused to wear a mask. The state order for masks was lifted the day before, but companies can still deny service to anyone who does not wear a mask, and the woman refused to leave the bank, police said.
The video was obtained from bodycam footage at the Bank of America in Galveston on Thursday, March 11, 2021, a day after the mask’s mandate was lifted. The easing of the state mask mandate by Texas Governor Greg Abbott did not mean that masks were no longer necessary but rather transferred decision-making power from government to private companies. Abbott told the Texas Tribune that he was loosening restrictions so that “businesses and families in Texas have the freedom to determine their own destiny.”
