Victor Lee Tucker Killed a Cashier
A cashier was killed and an off-duty police officer seriously injured after an argument at a grocery store in DeKalb County, Georgia. Victor Lee Tucker reportedly shot the two men after arguing with the cashier about the store’s mask policy. The police officer also managed to hit Tucker, causing both of them to be hospitalized.
Despite the increase in vaccination rates, a considerable number of Americans have yet to be vaccinated, which means they will still need to wear masks. As a result, anti-vaccines bothered by the mask rule have shown some violent protests. In late May, Virginia Christine Brown walked through a vaccination tent in Tennessee. In March, another individual, Terry Wright, was arrested in Texas after collapsing on a bank over his mask policies.
Anti-maskers have also been placed on no-fly lists for their aggressive stance. Tucker is just the latest in a long line of Americans who refuse to play by the rules. His status is unknown at this time, as police have yet to release further details since he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
The shooting incident appears to be the first time that Tucker has had an arrest warrant in his name, we were unable to find any prior criminal charges. The GBI has confirmed that it will issue an arrest warrant on Tucker’s name but has not disclosed what the charges are. It is highly likely that he faces a murder charge as he shot and killed the cashier. On Monday, June 14, Tucker reportedly walked into the Big Bear grocery store on Candler Road in Decatur at 1:10 p.m. He was checking in when he had an argument with the cashier about the lack of a mask on him.
On Monday, June 14, 2021, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DKSO) requested the Georgia Investigation Office to investigate an officer-involved in a shooting.
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 1:10 p.m., a male customer entered a supermarket at 2849 Candler Road in Decatur. While paying, the customer, identified as Victor Lee Tucker, Jr., 30, of Palmetto, GA, had a conversation with a cashier about his mask. Tucker left the store without making his purchase but immediately went back inside.
Tucker went straight back to the cashier, pulled out a gun, and shot him. Tucker then began shooting at a DKSO agent who was attempting to intervene while working off duty at the supermarket. The deputy and Tucker exchanged shots, and both were wounded during the shooting. Two responding DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) officers arrested Tucker as he attempted to exit through the front door of the supermarket.
The cashier was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Tucker was also taken to Grady and is in stable condition. The DKSO aide is being treated for his injuries at Atlanta Medical Center and is in stable condition.
A second teller was grazed by a bullet. He was treated for his injury at the scene. The DKPD will take arrest warrants against Tucker. GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once completed, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
