Viviane Obenauf, an ex-professional boxer, has been arrested and suspected of beating her groom to death, police say. The 34-year-old Brazilian boxer was arrested this week in Switzerland and is considered the “prime suspect” in the murder of her 61-year-old husband, Bloody Elbow reported.

Obenauf’s husband, who has not been publicly anointed but is called “Thomas” by prosecutors, was beaten to death on October 19, RT reported. The seven-week investigation involved a search of the couple’s flat and Obenauf’s gym, the outlet wrote. Obenauf’s husband, who was 61, was found dead from “massive injuries” from a “sustained violent assault” at the couple’s flat in Interlaken, a Swiss city southeast of Bern.


She is 34 years old.

Obenauf and her husband were wedded in January this year, and the ex-boxer and mother of one of them had continually posted photos of the family on social media. One of her buddies who attended the wedding said: “I knew both of them very well, and death has shocked me,” local media Blick reported. “I was a little uncertain [about his marriage], but when I got to know [him], I knew, ‘this is [the man] right.’ We celebrated at a hotel on Lake Thun, and they were both very happy.”

Obenauf lived in Switzerland after his retirement, where he opened a gym, Bloody Elbow wrote. Obenauf’s husband owned the Des Alpes restaurant in Interlaken, which closed since her death, the Daily Star said. According to the Daily Star, managers have not declared if and when it will reopen, and staff has been suspended. One of the restaurant owner’s friends declared: “He was easy to get along with, and he worked with passion. … And now he’s gone. He’s shocked everyone,” Blick reported.


Obenauf was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and started her athletic career as a soccer player and gymnast, becoming an Olympic-level gymnast before starting boxing at age 18, the Daily Star reported. Bloody Elbow reported that Obenauf made his debut. In professional boxing on April 21, 2014, succeeding that fight and going 6-0 in his first fights. Her first defeat was in 2016, after which she won three more fights.

She then owned her first title shot against former Olympic champion and current unanimous lightweight champion Katie Taylor, who lost on points. In 2017 She then fought Maja Milenkovic for the vacant WBF international lightweight title and won it. He then reached 4-4 before finally retiring in 2019 with 14 wins and 6 losses.


One of Obenauf’s ex-boyfriends also conveyed to the outlet about the Brazilian super featherweight boxer, declaring: “She always had two faces. It’s like flicking a switch.”

He said the two had been dating for a while before she became jealous of one of her friends and ended up hitting him in the face numerous times. At the time, he said he tried to report her but someday drew his complaint because he said his mom had just passed and that he “no longer had the strength for this legal battle,” Blick reported.

Swiss police Report

According to Swiss police, Obenauf’s husband was killed after suffering “massive injuries” from a blunt object, RT wrote. Obenauf was onetime arrested for a charge, Blick reported after she hit a man in the face at a London nightclub, who she said attempted to touch her. Obenauf ended up spending a few hours in prison after that October 2016 incident, according to Blick.
