Adrianne Lenker is an American musician from Indianapolis, Indiana, best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist for Big Thief.
She was born on July 9, 1991, in Indianapolis and was raised in a Christian sect until she was 6 years old, but grew up primarily in Minnesota. Her parents rented houses in Coon Rapids, Nisswa and Bloomington, Minnesota before settling in Plymouth, where she lived for 10 years. She spent a summer traveling through the Midwest and living in a blue Ford cargo van. Lenker wrote her first song at age 8 and, at 13, she recorded her first album.
Her other interests include studying Taekwondo and she was a state karate champion three years in a row. She did not attend high school but instead received her GED at the age of 16. She attended Berklee College of Music on a scholarship awarded by Susan Tedeschi of the Tedeschi Trucks Band.
She was the musical guest on tonight’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. From a remote location in the open air, she performed “anything” from the songs on her album. Check it out below.

Adrianne Lenker Career
In 2006, when Lenker was 15 years old, he released his first solo album, Stages of the Sun.
In 2014, he released his second solo album, Hours Were the Birds. Lenker also released two EPs with future bandmate Buck Meek, A-sides and B sides.
In 2015, Lenker formed the band Big Thief after meeting Meek the first day he moved to New York. Lenker released his third solo album, abysskiss, on October 5, 2018.

Lenker met future Big Thief co-founder Buck Meek at a concert when he was living in Boston and then met him again at a winery the day he moved to New York.
The couple started playing together and married when Lenker was 24 years old. They divorced in 2018, staying on Big Thief as “deep friends.”
In 2019, Lenker was in a relationship with artist Indigo Sparke, although the two broke up sometime in 2020.
While Lenker is comfortable with the label “queer”, she has expressed her desire not to define her sexual orientation beyond that.
