Brett Blomme was detained by special agents from the state’s Division of Criminal Investigation “following an investigation into multiple uploads of child pornography through a Kik messaging app account in October and November 2020,” according to a statement.
Blomme was elected to the court in the 2020 spring election, defeating Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Paul Dedinsky, appointed by former Republican Gov. Scott Walker.
Prior to his election, Blomme was the head of the City of Milwaukee’s zoning appeals board, appointed to the position by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and director of the Cream City Foundation, which provides grant funds to groups. LGBTQ in the Milwaukee area.
Blomme, a longtime LGBTQ activist, was the Major Giving Director at the Wisconsin AIDS Resource Center for 18 months, following a stint at the Madison City Attorney’s Office. From 2011 to 2015 he practiced criminal defense at the State Public Defender’s Office.

During the election, Blomme had to explain why he, his husband, and their children live in both the Milwaukee and Madison area.
Blomme said his family lives in a small duplex on the west side of town that the couple bought in 2018. But he and his husband also bought a much larger house in the Village of Cottage Grove, a Madison suburb, in April. 2019 for $ 380,000.
Blomme said her husband had a very specialized position at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and could not find a similar job in Milwaukee. “Nothing has gone right,” Blomme said.
Blomme grew up on a farm in Missouri and came to Milwaukee to assist Marquette. He returned to Missouri to study law but returned to Wisconsin.
Charged – Arrested
Criminal charges are expected to be filed against Blomme on Wednesday. He was arrested in Dane County. A 44-page search warrant filed Friday by a DCI special agent said investigators found Blomme, using the name “dommasterbb,” uploaded 27 videos and images containing child pornography. Two of the files were uploaded to a Milwaukee County government building, according to the search warrant.
The special agent requested permission to search Blomme’s courtroom, cameras, Milwaukee and Dane counties, and his 2017 Audi. Blomme is currently assigned to the Milwaukee County Children’s Court.
A Milwaukee County reserve judge signed the search warrant Monday afternoon.
Milwaukee County Chief Judge Mary Triggiano said she was unable to speak about Blomme’s arrest.
“Due to the ongoing investigation and the pending case, I cannot comment,” Triggiano said in a statement. “Judge Blomme’s court calendar will be covered by another judge as needed, beginning (Wednesday).”
He ran as a Liberal challenger to a Conservative candidate for Walker.
“I am the progressive alternative,” he said during the campaign.
The investigation was conducted by the state Department of Justice with the assistance of the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
Other agencies involved include police departments in Wauwatosa, Cottage Grove, and Brookfield, the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, and the Minnesota Office of Criminal Learning.
