Cecilia Morales Wiki – Cecilia Morales Biography

Transportation Security Administration officer Cecilia Morales has only been on the job for a few weeks, but her first responder skills are already having an impact.

While working at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, Morales sprang into action when a young mother realized that her 2-month-old son had stopped breathing as they waited to cross security, “the TSA said in a statement press on Thursday.

Once alerted to the situation, Morales yelled instructions at the mother who tried to resuscitate her baby, but Morales quickly realized that she would have to get involved.

“She was so nervous and knew that if she didn’t get there, it wasn’t going to be a good result,” Morales, a former EMT, said in a statement. “I jumped on the rollers of the conveyor belt at the checkpoint and she gave me the baby. I performed the infant Heimlich maneuver.”

It wasn’t until the second time that Morales placed him face down on her arm and slapped her on the back that she began to breathe.

“The mother was too nervous and in shock to hold her son, so I took the baby through the metal detector,” Morales said.

Security footage from the incident was posted on Twitter and shows Morales jumping onto the conveyor belt to reach the mother. While Morales was helping the boy, others at the checkpoint stopped what they were doing and looked ahead.

“Think if she didn’t work that way or if the woman was before or after that mark,” one Twitter user said of the rescue. “It was literally a miracle. If she was anywhere else, in the car on the road, at the door … anywhere else, this would have been a different story.”

“I hope that the baby receives the necessary medical attention to live,” they added.

According to the British Red Cross, if a baby is not breathing and you have already called for help, she can give rescue breaths by tilting her head back and blowing five times into her mouth and nose. This may be followed by 30 chest compressions in the middle of the chest with two fingers.

Morales, who joined the TSA in October, said that watching the video of his heroics was “mind-blowing.”

“I saw the video afterward,” he said in the statement. “It was the first time I saw myself in action, saving a life. It was amazing to watch. I felt my training and experience take over.”
