San Diego police arrested a couple who accused them of killing their young daughter just two months after social services returned the girl to her home. Charged – Arrested
San Diego Police Homicide Lt. Andra Brown said the department will not release any details of the case to the press. They cannot reveal the cause of the baby’s death, as it is an “ongoing investigation.”
The boy’s grandmother, Adrienne Arnett, told NBC that “only God knows what the baby went through before his death.” She expressed sadness for the baby because she felt that the parents tortured the baby for months before his death.
The grandmother explained that after the baby was born, the social service gave Ucman’s aunt emergency custody because her apartment was not suitable for the child. The couple cleaned their house and social services, returned the baby to them several weeks later.
According to the grandmother, several family members and friends warned social services about the dangers of returning the baby to its biological parents, particularly the father, Copeland.
“Every member of the family told social services that she was dangerous. We knew the boy was dangerous, too,” Arnett said.
The next-door neighbor said she did not know the couple had a baby. She noted that she heard the couple yelling at each other often. But she wasn’t sure if the police had ever had to intervene.
Elizabeth Ucman and Brandon Copeland are being held at the San Diego Central Jail without bond. They will appear in court on Monday, November 15.
