Prosecutors allege that Coronel Aispuro was not only aware of Guzmán’s role as leader of the violent Sinaloa cartel, but also allegedly “transmitted messages” between 2012 and 2014 on Guzmán’s behalf in “promoting drug trafficking activities” while her husband He was trying to avoid capture by the Mexican authorities.

After her arrest in February 2014, Coronel Aispuro allegedly continued to deliver messages that she received from Guzmán during her visits to the prison, which were not monitored by Mexican authorities, according to prosecutors.

In addition, it is alleged that Coronel Aispuro conspired with Guzmán’s children and a now collaborating witness to assist Guzmán in his escape in July 2015 from the Altiplano prison, located in Almoloya de Juárez, Mexico, through an underground tunnel, according to prosecutors.

The plot involved the purchase of land near the prison, firearms, and an armored truck. In addition, the group discussed Guzmán’s smuggling with a GPS watch so they could “identify his exact whereabouts and build the tunnel with an entry point accessible to him,” according to court documents.

After Guzmán was arrested again in Mexico in January 2016, Coronel Aispuro is alleged to have been involved in planning another prison break with others prior to Guzmán’s extradition to the United States in January 2017. Prosecutors said that Colonel Aispuro had a meeting with Guzmán about a month after his second arrest to discuss an escape plan.

In a separate meeting, Coronel Aispuro gave the collaborating witness approximately $ 100,000 and instructed them to “arrange the purchase of a property in the vicinity of the Altiplano prison” and that the witness would receive additional funds depending on the eventual cost of the property.
