Kyleen Waltman, a mother of three from South Carolina, was attacked by three pit bulls while walking on a trail near her home on Honea Path, about 80 miles northwest of Columbia on Monday, March 21. When Waltman awoke from her coma to find that both of her arms had been amputated, she was so upset that she had to be sedated and put back on a ventilator. According to the Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 10:30 a.m. to a home in the town of Honea Path, where they found Kyleen Waltman critically injured.
Avery Presley, a local farmer, and witness, was reportedly able to scare the dogs by firing a gun. He was driving his tractor to feed his cows on the road when he saw Waltman being attacked in a ditch. “I’m not a hero. I still feel guilty that I didn’t get there sooner. Praise the Lord for being there,” said Mark Gymer, Waltman’s cousin. “There are never answers to a situation like this. The only thing I can hope for is for Kyleen to come out of this and be able to live as much of a normal life as she can. Waltman’s sister, Amy Wynne, organized a fundraiser for medical and financial aid on GoFundMe that reads, “Hello, my name is Amy Wynne. This fundraiser is for my sister on March 21, 2022, my sister Kyleen Waltman was mutilated by 3 dogs. She had both her arms amputated up to the shoulder and now had to have her colon removed and now may have to have her esophagus removed. She has a long road ahead of her and will need medical and financial help. Every A little bit would go a long way. , but please don’t feel obligated to donate. Prayers are what we need right now. In a recent update, Wynn wrote, “Kyleen has fully woken up and the doctors talked to her about her arms but that caused her a lot of anxiety so they sedated her. Her blood pressure is still high and she has a fever over 102 his oxygen levels keep dropping so he’s back on the ventilator his story isn’t over now everything in his arms has been taken away and now he can’t have regular prosthetics so here we’re trying to figure out how to prevent him from having negative thoughts about his life. I understand that for 38 years he has had arms and now he doesn’t, how he is thinking. Keep fighting.”
According to the Daily Mail, “If it wasn’t for [the passerby], my sister wouldn’t be here. At the time, they couldn’t even tell who she was. She didn’t deserve it. She was a good one. She helped everyone… She just found out that she’s a grandmother [and] … can’t even hold the grandson and that’s going to be devastating,” said Waltman’s sister, Shenna Green.
Waltman used to work at Lou & Perry’s with his mother, Diane. “She sure is a tough woman and I hope she can fight this. I hate it. Dogs Owner Arrested
