Incident Detail
According to court documents, Rocheleau’s son told police that his mother had recently ended his long-standing relationship with Rivera-Nadeau and that Rivera-Nadeau had a history of verbal and physical abuse to her mother.
Police said in an affidavit that they found a ring believed to belong to Rivera-Nadeau on Rocheleau’s desk.
Investigators said they looked at Rocheleau’s phone and saw that he had started a new relationship. Police said Rivera-Nadeau found out about him and confronted him about the possibility of cheating shortly before he was shot. Police said Rivera-Nadeau traveled to North Carolina after the shooting and was arrested in Charlotte last week. After being shot, he was charged with second-degree assault and attempted murder. At Rivera’ Nadeau’s trial Friday, Rocheleau’s loved ones, who call themselves Lisa’s Army, filled the courtroom. They declined an interview but posted a message on a GoFundMe page on Thursday.
“The most loving, caring, and selfless woman has been taken from us, tragically thrown into such a terrible situation,” the statement said. “Lisa is finally happy for once in her life.”
Rivera-Nadeau is being held for an evidential hearing.
Court documents do not explain how Rivera-Nadeau was found in North Carolina or why he was there in the first place.
The attorney general’s office said it was actively investigating the case, along with the police and the Strafford County attorney’s office.
