As a crowd climbed the stairs to the entrance to the Senate wing of the US Capitol building around 2 p.m. On January 6, Jackson was allegedly seen on surveillance video “clenching his fist and repeatedly striking a United States Capitol police officer … while attempting to force his way into the building,” according to court documents. .
Shortly after 2:45 p.m., when the crowd dominated the officers, Jackson was reportedly one of the first people to walk through the gates.
Hours later, at approximately 4:50 p.m., when the crowd confronted police at the West Terrance entrance to the Capitol, Jackson appeared to be allegedly armed with a metal baseball bat.
“The defendant is observed repeatedly hitting a group of uniformed officers from the United States Capitol and the Metropolitan Police Department with the baseball bat,” the court documents allege.
On Monday he was charged with assaulting a United States officer; assaulting a US officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon; obstruction of an official procedure; illegal entry and physical violence into buildings or restricted grounds; and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, according to a criminal complaint.
An attorney was not yet listed in court records, and Jackson could not be immediately reached for comment.
Police officials previously said that 56 MPD and Capitol Police (USCP) officers were injured during the siege. A USCP officer, Brian Sicknick, later died as a result of injuries sustained that day.
Four other people, including Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt, died during the insurrection.
