Confirming the news of his arrest, the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office wrote: “Francisco Oropeza is confirmed to have been captured and charged with murder in the alleged shooting deaths of 5 people in Trails End.” He added: “Oropeza was captured Tuesday night [May 2] at Cut and Shoot by Task Force agents after an extensive and exhaustive 4-day manhunt involving more than 250 law enforcement officers, multiple agencies local, state and federal, and numerous volunteers. Oropeza was transported and booked into the Montgomery County Jail without incident. Oropeza will go to the magistrate, then he will be taken back to the San Jacinto County Jail, where he will be held on a bond of five million dollars.”

A person believed to be Francisco Oropesa, 38, was arrested in the town of Cut and Shoot, Texas, San Jacinto County District Attorney Todd Dillon said.

The FBI received a “unique random tip” from someone with “courage and bravery” about the whereabouts of the suspects at 5:15 p.m. m. on May 2, according to News Nation. US Marshals, Texas DPS, and the Border Patrol BORTAC team responded to the location and were “caught hiding in a closet under their clothes,” Capers said at a news conference. The agents arrested Oropesa around 6:30 p.m. He is now being held on five counts of murder and is being held on $5 million bail. An unidentified woman was also detained at the scene and is reported to be her aunt, according to the Independent.

A total of 15 people, who had come to help at a church event, gathered on April 28 at a home in Cleveland, according to Wilson Garcia, whose wife, Sonia Argentina Guzmán, and son, Daniel Enrique Laso, were murdered. Oropesa allegedly opened fire on the neighbors after one complained that the sound of gunshots would not let a baby sleep, according to Today. Garcia said: “So we went and told the man to please stop shooting, or keep shooting further from the house.

But he responded by saying that he was on his property and that he could do whatever he wanted. I said, ‘Okay, okay. He is owned by him, but could he move further away or reject it? That’s all. He then started insulting us and we told him we were going to call the police”.

“We went in and my wife was talking to the police, and we called five times because he was being more threatening. We saw him, he was coming off his property and he cocked his gun. I told my wife to come in because she cocked his gun and he might come to threaten us. Then my wife said, ‘Come in, I don’t think I’ll shoot myself because I’m a woman, I’ll stay here at the door,’” he was quoted as saying by CNN. But Oropesa went to García’s house, shot his wife at the door, and then killed three other adults, Diana Velázquez Alvarado, 21; Julisa Molina Rivera, 31; and José Jonathan Casarez, 18 and García’s nine-year-old son.

Oropesa is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, according to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s office. The governor told a news conference that Oropesa had been deported from the United States four times and was back in Texas illegally. He was first removed by an immigration judge in March 2009, the Independent claims. And then again, in September 2009, January 2012, and July 2016.

After his arrest, many were quick to comment, with one noting, “Good for them. And whoever tipped off LE to his whereabouts. Is it safe to assume he’s not here legally (because he’s been deported so many times before)? Sort of like Shit for the taxpayers. Will fund your stay at the Gray Bar Motel.” On the other hand, many praised the officials. One commented: “Well done FBI and all the officers who made sure he got caught!” One more asked: “Who was the registered owner of the weapon used?” Another suggested: “Now close the border!!!”

Good for them. And who alerted LE to his whereabouts? Is it safe to assume that he is not here legally (because he was deported so many times before)? What kind of bullshit that taxpayers will fund his stay at the Gray Bar Motel.
