Lori Vallow Daybell – All You Need to Know
Lori Vallow Daybell is on trial in Idaho for the murder of her two children and her husband’s first wife. Opening speeches began today in the highly anticipated murder case of Lori Vallow Daybell, accused of murdering her two children and her fifth husband’s first wife. Lori sat between defense attorneys Jim Archibald and John Thomas in the Idaho courtroom. District Judge Steven Boyce is in charge of the case.
Lori is charged with murder at the death of his two sons, Joshua “JJ” Vallow and Tylee Ryan. She is also accused of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the death of her husband, Chad Daybell’s first wife, Tammy. “Money, power, and s**ex, that’s what this case is all about,” Fremont County District Attorney Lindsey Blake said in her opening statement. “Lori used money, power, and s**ex or these promises to get what she wanted.” Vallow denied the charges. Chad is also charged with murder in connection with the deaths of Tylee and JJ but will be tried separately at another time.
Joining the crowded courtroom were Chad’s lawyer, John Prior, and JJ’s grandparents, Kay and Larry Woodcock.
JJ and Tylee were reported missing by JJ’s grandparents. In November 2019, it was discovered that JJ and Tylee had not been seen since September of that year. In June 2020, JJ and Tylee’s remains were found buried on a Chad property.
During their keynote speech on Monday, Fremont County Prosecutor Lindsey Blake showed jurors photos of the shallow grave where JJ and Tylee’s remains were found.
“What’s left of Tylee has been found. Charred remains. A mass of bone and tissue. That’s what was left of this beautiful young woman,” Blake said. “His DNA was found in a pick and shovel and later found in Daybell’s shed.”
JJ was wrapped in plastic and taped; East Idaho News reported that Tylee was dismembered and burned, based on court documents.
Judge Steven Boyce ruled in March that Vallow, who remained in a psychiatric treatment center before being eligible to stand trial, would not face the death penalty for the murders. After the children disappear, Lori and Chad, a writer who writes religious doomsday scripts, face police investigation when their past reveals a trail of mysterious deaths, including Chad’s wife, Tammy Daybell, who died in October. 2019, weeks after Lori’s children disappeared. Weeks before Chad and Lori got married.
In his keynote speech on Monday, Blake said Tammy had suffocated and “died at the hands of someone else.”
“[Lori] Blake will lift any barriers to get what he wants and want Chad Daybell,” he added.
