Reid is the son of Andy and Tammy Reid. He is the second of five siblings. He has two brothers (Garrett and Spencer) and two sisters (Drew Ann and Crosby).
Reid was married to his wife Kristen Nordland.
On January 30, 2007, in Pennsylvania, Reid was arrested after an incident in which he was accused of pointing a gun at another driver. Reid pleaded guilty to charges of simple assault, carrying a firearm without a license and possessing a controlled substance without registration. That same day, his brother Garrett, who died of a 2012 heroin overdose at age 39, was arrested in another drug-related accident.
Britt and Garrett Reid were sentenced to prison in Pennsylvania in November 2007, Britt from eight to 23 months and four years of probation. The siblings had lived in their parents’ home at the time; the sentencing judge said Andy and Tammy Reid’s home had “no structure that this court could depend on.”
Britt Reid pleaded guilty to three more charges stemming from an August 2007 incident in the parking lot of a sporting goods store: driving under the influence of a controlled substance; possessing a controlled substance without registration, and use and possession of drug paraphernalia. She had also been prosecuted for reckless driving, court records show.
Britt Reid, in her second year as an assistant outside linebacker for the Chiefs, has coached with her father in Kansas City for the past eight seasons. She spent three years as a defensive line coach (2016-18), one as an assistant defensive line coach (2015) and two as a defensive quality control coach (2013-14).
“It’s fun, it’s challenging, it’s a great experience,” Britt Reid said Monday of her work for her father. “Growing up as the son of a coach, you can’t see your father much. Now, training for him, I basically see him every day. So it’s amazing.”
Last Monday, Kansas City Chiefs outside linebackers coach Britt Reid met with the media as part of the preparation for Super Bowl 55.
The 35-year-old assistant spoke about how her father, head coach Andy Reid, “probably has to be tougher on me than anyone else.” Of Andy Reid’s three children, Britt said, he was always the most “connected like him.” And Britt Reid talked about the matchup with Tampa Bay that her team was preparing for, how the Chiefs facing the Bucs would be a “great game” and “two great teams fighting.”
It’s a game that Britt Reid will now miss.
The collision injured three people, including 5 and 4-year-old children. The 5-year-old boy suffered fatal injuries, Kansas City Police Officer Dave Jackson told USA TODAY Sports.
Britt Reid did not travel with the team to Tampa for Super Bowl 55, the team confirmed. The Chiefs released a statement Friday night saying they were aware of the crash, were “in the process of gathering information” and had “no further comment at this time.”
Kansas City television station 41 Action News reported that according to a search warrant, a Kansas City police officer reported an odor of alcohol. The station also said that according to the court order, Reid told police that she had had two to three drinks.
Jackson did not name Reid when he gave details to USA TODAY Sports. But she said she was investigating “disability”.
This is not Britt Reid’s first encounter with law enforcement.
