Christopher Coffey, a newlywed died after being hit by a driver who hit him and hit the road while he and his wife traveled through Florida on their way to their honeymoon destination.
Christopher Coffey, of Tennessee, was removed from life support Saturday after his condition deteriorated and he was surrounded by his family when he died that morning, according to a statement from the family on the crowdfunding website GoFundMe.
The statement added that Christopher’s “final wishes were to donate his organs” and there was a family waiting for a transplant.
Cause of Death
Christopher married Mary, his 10-year-old partner, on Saturday, September 11, and the next day, as they were driving toward Florida, a driver in a white Dodge Charger struck the back of his truck, flipping it off the interstate.
According to the family, the driver of the white Dodge Charger fled the scene before emergency service personnel arrived.
Christopher and Mary were taken to Halifax Medical Center where they were treated for their injuries.
While Mary had “minor but painful injuries”, Christopher was taken to an intensive care unit where he was treated after suffering a “life-threatening traumatic brain injury”.
The “fighter” Christopher died a few days later. He was surrounded by Mary, her parents Joel and Angie, and his best friend Jordan.
Allison Moore, the organizer of one of the two GoFundMe pages that Newsweek has seen regarding Christopher, said in tribute: “Chris will always be with us through our memories and his legacy will continue.”

Chesney Rutherford, Christopher’s cousin, told 10TV.com: “We all realize that finding the driver is not going to fix this family. It is not going to heal Christopher, I can’t imagine anyone going through this and I would hate that. happen “. he happened to someone else because we couldn’t find the person. ”
“It is very difficult. This is not how it was supposed to be. And it is difficult to understand. And we are all trying to cope as best we can.”
Rutherford added: “We grew up very, very close. We spent a lot of time together. He’s an amazing person, he would take your shirt off your back.”
The two GoFundMe campaigns seek to raise $ 5,000 and $ 10,000, respectively. The money raised will go towards paying medical bills, as well as travel and hotel fees.
